I am a therapist who brings art to healing.

Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.

I’m Annie Danberg, LMFT. My practice as an art therapist is located in San Rafael, CA, surrounded by beauty in every direction.

I know what it is like to feel anxious, confused, halted by self-judgement and pain. I also know the aliveness, peace and sense of possibility that comes with a creative approach to living – grounded in an authentic, curious and embodied sense of self.

The Journey that Brought Me Here.

As a child art-making was my solace, a refuge from the physical and emotional pain of having dwarfism. In those moments of creating I felt as if I’d come home and could relax. Creating art brought feelings of relief, a sense of mastery, and pure joy.

In young adulthood, I felt self-conscious and terribly ashamed of my body. So much so that this limited my capacity to be in the world. One night, I was graced with a dream where I met a very small girl. She called out to me, “Hey, you’re little.” I looked deep into her blue eyes, felt a profound sense of love and said, “Yes, you are too. We were born this way and it’s okay.” I awoke knowing what I had to do. I had to love and accept myself.

This is true for all of us.

The dream pointed the way, but I was not out of the woods yet. Soon my desire to create froze in the face of perfectionism. The joy I once felt making art turned to anguish. I became chronically ill, and I suspected that there was a connection between my illness, creative blockage, and emotional pain.

To find the path to self-acceptance, creative freedom, and seek a way through these ordeals, I entered depth-oriented therapy. Great therapists, dream-work and art-making formed the trail that led me through my dark forest.

An art-filled life began to emerge.

This trail also led me to study process painting, art therapy, meditation, and inspired me to become a licensed psychotherapist, and art therapist in order to serve the growth of others.

As I said, I’m glad you are here. There’s a beautiful opportunity for you in this work to embrace a creative approach to living and claiming your aliveness.

“Thank you Annie for your special guidance in offering the opportunity to get to know myself within a creative, no pressure, non competitive environment.”
